Connection…

With my work I am continually asking questions about how we connect. How do we connect through abstraction, thought and emotion. Is it our innate human-ness, our nature to find meaning, to find the familiar or something recognizable?

Looking within oneself to seek these answers by taken in what is all around us, abstraction in reality and vise versa and seeing if others have a similar view, or a different one, but in the end we are tied by that same drive - to find, to search, to connect.

Artist Bio

Renée Wehring is an interdisciplinary artist using medias such as drawing, painting and fibre. Her interests in nature, natural science, organisms and marks inform her non-representational work, which investigates swarms, patterns, migration and her own biorhythm. Renee is an eclectic artist who also works representationally with her portrait practice and interests in the local flora and fauna of her Canadian home. She merges her two interests of abstract and realism into an artistic practice she call’s ‘abstracted realism’. Renée's work is primarily process based and puts an important emphasis on movement and the physicality of leaving a mark.

Renée graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in drawing, from the University of the Arts in 2011.
