Artist Statement
The Circle
Inspired by nature’s boundless curiosities and the cyclical nature of being, I enjoy exploring life’s wonders. In my current work you will find themes of life and death, fragility and strength. I work to convey the beauty that surrounds us, but with a little moodiness.
An advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves and a lover of flora and fauna I hope to bring awareness to the importance of protecting earth and her creatures. Life is a cycle.
Artist Bio
Renée Wehring is an interdisciplinary artist using medias such as drawing, painting and fibre. Her interests in nature, natural science, organisms and marks inform her work, which investigates swarms, patterns and migration. Renee is an eclectic artist who also works representationally with her portrait practice and interests in the local flora and fauna of her Canadian home, drawing inspiration from vintage scientific drawings and desaturated palettes. She merges her two interests of abstract and realism into an artistic practice she call’s ‘abstracted realism’. Renée's work is primarily process based and puts an important emphasis on movement and the physicality of leaving a mark.
Renée graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in drawing, from the Alberta University of the Arts in 2011.
